Library

The Denison State School Library complex comprises the library which is shared with the Capricornia School of Distance Education and a library annex which houses a laptop laboratory, a teacher resource area and a movie production room.    The library itself also houses a number of student laptops and an interactive whiteboard.       The library offers an alternative venue for students during lunch breaks with different activities being offered on different days.    The range of activities changes each term.

Borrowing:-

All classes are allocated a borrowing time each week and students are also encouraged to borrow independently during breaks.   To preserve our resources we have a “No Bag, No Borrowing” policy and as such all students do need to have a library bag.  Library bags are available for purchase through the P&C Uniform Shop or students may bring a suitable bag from home.

 The Library Program:-

The school library program is coordinated by our teacher-librarian Mrs Heslin.   The first aspect of the library program is the teaching of information literacy through the information skills process.  This part of the program commences for our students in their Prep year.    The second aspect of the program is to promote reading and critical review of literature.  All year levels are given exposure to a wide range of literature and discussions and critical review of these texts is an important aspect of the library program.

Deno Readers:

This is a home reading program that encourages students to read regularly so that they develop confidence and a love of reading.  This program comprises nine levels and as students complete each level this achievement is celebrated with the presentation of a certificate on parade.  Further information on this program is contained in our explanation sheet Deno Readers: Here's How it Works
